BASS software wins again with Indonesian shippers

OSLO (Norway), November 20, 2013: BASS, the leading provider of maritime software solutions, has closed its second deal in Indonesia in less than a year, signing on market entrant PT. Odyssey Shipping recently.

The rising star, PT. Odyssey Shipping, will operate its two tankers using the BASSnet™ Maintenance.

An innovative software, the BASSnet™ Maintenance module creates a planned or structured maintenance system that handles vessels’ components, spares list and job maintenance procedures.

The efficiency-enhancing features of BASSnet™ Maintenance facilitate timely and accurate reporting of vessel maintenance information along with key data that is constantly updated. All components including a list of spare parts, transfer of materials and maintenance jobs impacting ships are fed into the system. Users can also attach additional information including photographs, measurements and reports.

“We anticipate substantial productivity improvement through the streamlining of work processes that is enabled by the BASSnet™ Maintenance software,” said PT. Odyssey Shipping’s President Director, Albert Kindangen.

He noted further that BASSnet™ Maintenance improves fleet management by ensuring that all information is automatically transferred to the company’s office database. This provides the operator with a comprehensive, credible, accurate and easily accessible maintenance history of the vessel, accessible to both personnel on board as well as in the office.

With the convenient Planner Filter feature of the software, jobs can be separated based on their priority ranking. The Planner screen gives users a good overview of the maintenance tasks ahead, showing the scheduled jobs based on the filters that are specified.

Once a job is concluded, the reporting system offers an option to move the just concluded job to history. This “move to history” option is solely controlled by the Master/Chief engineer on board a vessel, or superintendent in the office who reviews the job reporting and makes any corrections or additions as required.

The system also offers a sub-component function, which is for movable equipments that have their own life cycles and maintenance programs. This sub-module will plan their maintenance programs by keeping track of running hours separately. For example, main engine pistons and exhaust valves can be monitored in this manner.

“Our selection of BASSnet™ solutions, which is used by all the largest and best run shipping companies the world over, is a natural choice,” said Kindangen.

PT. Odyssey Shipping’s vessels are chartered out to Indonesia’s national oil company Pertamina on long term contracts.

The introduction of BASSnet™ Maintenance into PT. Odyssey Shipping’s operations paves the way for the shipper to adopt other best-selling modules from the BASSnet™ range as it strengthens its fleet.

For BASS, the tie-up with PT. Odyssey Shipping comes a few months after it first set foot in Indonesia, tying up with PT. Pelita Samudera Shipping in mid-December last year.

“We are very much encouraged that the promising Indonesian market is responding to the BASSnet™ advantage,” said Chris Long, BASS’ Regional Sales Manager responsible for the Indonesian market.

Long expressed confidence that the overall improvement in profitability resulting from  the BASSnet™ Maintenance  experience would encourage PT. Odyssey Shipping to expand its usage of BASSnet™ Fleet Management Systems to multiply its gains.

Indonesia, an economic powerhouse with a thriving shipping industry, offers BASS an opportunity to explore a lucrative market to be serviced by the award-winning maritime solutions.

This would complement BASS’ phenomenal progress in Asia and other markets in the past year.

New signings which have established BASS as a top choice for shippers include Singapore-based Neptune Orient Lines, Japan’s Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd, Durban-based Grindrod Shipping, Germany’s Oldendorff Carriers and Sandingan Shipping based in the Philippines, to name a few.

The productivity gains provided by BASS software have grown in popularity as shipping concerns look for creative solutions to deal with the global slowdown in the industry.
