OSM Scales Up on BASS Software to Boost Savings
OSLO, NORWAY, 4 FEBRUARY 2013: Shipping major OSM Ship Management has given BASS’ award-winning fleet management software an emphatic stamp of approval with a hefty new order for its acclaimed solutions.
In the latest deal, OSM, which is among the largest ship management companies in the world, will have 14 vessels equipped with the BASSnet™ Maintenance and Procurement modules to enhance the productivity of their vessel operations.
OSM’s decision is a clear endorsement of BASS software solutions as the shipping giant had in 2011 signed up two vessels for these modules, which stand out for their ease of use, efficiency enhancement and integrated features.
“The BASSnet™ software modules have proven their worth in terms of cost savings, higher productivity and streamlining of operations in our demanding business environment,” said OSM’s General Manager Captain Rajan Mathrani.
The Maintenance and Procurement modules are among a range of BASSnet™ fleet management systems that are aimed at providing “one, integrated solution” for all aspects of maritime operations.
The software helps fleet operators and ship managers to plan and undertake asset management and maintenance, inventory and material control, purchasing and e-procurement, accounting, payroll, HR and crew management, as well as safety management and efficient document control.
BASS’ Vice President of Sales- Asia Pacific, Mark Ravi noted: “We are delighted to have won this vote of confidence from OSM, which is the latest in a growing line of shipping majors that are convinced about the competitive edge that comes with BASS software solutions.”
With a fleet size in excess of 430 vessels and more than 10,000 employees, OSM’s operations have previously encompassed a range of software packages for planned maintenance services and procurement requirements.
“Following the switch to BASS software solutions from other marine applications, the OSM management is clearly convinced about the advantages of our state of the art systems against our competitors,” says Mark. “We look forward to providing OSM’s fleet with the full range of BASSnet™ modules in order that it can improve efficiency across its entire suite of services.”
OSM stands to enjoy significant benefits from the BASSnet™ solutions, which is designed to streamline and automate processes across the organisation and the fleet in order to optimise operations and rationalise costs.
OSM has its headquarters in Arendal, Norway and 26 offices worldwide, among others, in Hamburg, Rio de Janiero and Singapore. Its fleet ranges from small Anchor Handling Tugs (AHTS) for the offshore oil and gas sector to giant Very Large Crude Carriers or VLCCs which ply the oceans of the world, carrying crude oil.
For a company that commenced operations in the late 1980’s, OSM’s growth has been stellar.
“Our goal at OSM has been to constantly improve our reputation as a premier ship management company and to provide our services with integrity and reliability aiming for zero incidents and zero spills. The management and operational efficiencies that BASSnet™ solutions provide bring us one step closer to achieving our goals,” Capt. Mathrani said.
Expanding on BASS’ client orientation, Mark said: “Many of the largest shipping companies in the world are turning to BASS for software solutions as they see how we add value to their business. Our substantial user experience helps us to structure implementation according to the client’s needs and ensure rapid conversion from their existing software.”
BASS’s clients include leading names such as Singapore’s Neptune Orient Lines, MSI Shipping, Sandigan Shipping of the Philippines, South African shipping concern Grindrod Shipping and Malaysia’s Bumi Armada to name a few.
