OSLO (Norway), October 23, 2013: BASS, the market leader in maritime software innovation, starts the fourth quarter with a hefty boost by clinching a fleet-wide system upgrade for the subsidiary of the K-Line group Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd (TNKC).

With this upgrade, 107 TNKC vessels will operate on the state-of-the-art BASSnet™ 2.8 Fleet Management System to enhance its efficiency gains in step with the rapid evolution of shipping solutions.

The ship management company has been operating on BASSnet™ 2.0 since 2001. TNKC’s decision to stick with BASSnet™ proves that the software solution provides an unmatched business advantage.

“The key attraction of the latest BASSnet™ software for us is that it drives productivity improvement in our fleet to exciting new levels,” said TNKC’s Senior Managing Director Nakanishi Shinsei. “With the seamless migration process managed by BASS, we anticipate rapid gains in our ship management processes immediately.”

TNKC has been enjoying the benefits of optimising its shipping operations with BASSnet™ Fleet Management Systems for a full 12 years. These include the pioneering version of BASSnet™ SAFIR, a module that streamlines and automates safety information reporting, and BASSnet™ 2.0, which features multi-level information management solutions such as Easy Info.

Some 79 TNKC vessels being upgraded are from its base in Kobe, Japan and another 28 ships are from the company’s Manila office.

Giving perspective to TNKC’s decision, BASS’s Chief Executive Officer Per Steiner Upsaker said:

“The endorsement by TNKC is very meaningful because it is clear proof that BASSnet™’s integrated solutions provide outstanding value for a low total cost.”

“We are proud to generate value through innovation and intelligent information management for a large shipping company like TNKC with a lot of history,” Upsaker said, noting the pedigree of TNKC’s parent, the shipping giant Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha or K-Line.

In place of the legacy Easy Info application, TNKC will be equipped with the BASSnet™ Operations and BASSnet™ Document Manager modules. BASSnet™ Operations streamlines essential tasks like certificate tracking, voyage management, location management and maintaining electronic logs, among other things. BASSnet™ Document Manager is a powerful document and content management solution that serves the entire domain of ship/shore operations.

The modules that will be upgraded are the well-received BASSnet™ Maintenance, BASSnet™ Procurement and BASSnet™ SAFIR. The BASSnet™ Maintenance enables users to plan and execute the maintenance of their fleet and manage their global stock of spare parts efficiently. BASSnet™ Procurement streamlines purchasing activities and optimises the purchasing cycle, providing access to critical business information for outstanding cost control. BASSnet™ SAFIR is designed for the reporting and analysis of events arising from accidents and hazards that affect ship operations.

TNKC will be maintaining the BASSnet™ Accounting and BASSnet™ CrewNet for now.

For BASS, the TNKC upgrade marks an exciting year where the company has ventured into new horizons, and signed on numerous new clients.

Among the more prominent concerns that picked BASS recently are Norway’s OSM Ship Management, Malaysian integrated maritime service provider Sealink and French luxury liner Compagnie du Ponant. These operations join big names like Singapore-owned Neptune Orient Lines, MSI Ship Management Pte Ltd, Sandigan Ship Services of the Philippines, South African shipping concern Grindrod Limited and Malaysia’s Jasa Merin to name a few satisfied BASSnet™ users.
